A THANKLESS SOCIETY TRIGGERED BY
THE WOMEN’S LIBERATION MOVEMENT(?)
May 10, 1996

I was riding a bus homebound to Alfonso together with my student helper, Edward Fernandez. It did not take long for the bus to be filled with sitting passengers.

When a woman came, Edward quickly offered his seat probably trying to show me that he was a good boy. After a few minutes the seat beside me was again empty and Edward was again seated when another woman came again and Edward again offered his seat. After awhile the seat in front of me was vacated so Edward sat there but not for long as he again stood up to offer his seat to still another woman.

The next seat vacated was the one to my left side which Edward took this time. I have been observing from the beginning and I noticed that none of the three women who were offered seat by Edward before they moved to another seat thanked him, for his gallantry. So, in a voice loud enough to be heard by the three women said: “Edward, you better stop offering your seat to others. No one is thanking you for what you are doing”.

It was just one incident but you will notice that very few are now saying thank you for the good things a some are still doing. No doubt our society is now going to the dogs.

What is wrong with the world? Why are people uninterested in good manners and right conduct nowadays? Who are to blame for all these unethical behaviors? Even the table manners are no longer observed - an off shoot of the buffet style. Incidentally, even the teachers who are supposed to teach these manners are no longer practicing them… and the present generation is not at all concerned about the outcome. After all, it is easy to escape from reality through 'shabu' and the likes.

Are the women to be blamed for wanting to be liberated? Why not? It was God Himself who laid the law that women should be submissive t o man and look what Eve did in paradise? She was the one who encouraged Adam t o bite the ”apple”. Yet, that time there was only one law: “Don’t eat that fruit!” And yes that time it was God Himself who was directly talking to them. Of course, the serpent (devil) was there too.

Now with so many laws and so many serpents coming out in various forms who won’t get confused?

Who would care to thank anyone for anything ? The whirling world is too dizzy and we are all to busy t o understand.
